Heritage, by S.M. Boyce

I didn't think the Grimoire Saga could get any better.  But it seems like each book just surpasses the last.  From the last book we learned Kara was an Isen.  Will she learn to control her powers in this book?  What did her family hide from her about their Isen past?  Will it finally be the extra power she needs to overthrow Carden?  Also after all the treachery from the bloods can she still trust them and save Ourea?  Will some of them redeem themselves and help her try to achieve peace?

This starts much like the last book, Kara training in the Vagabond's Village.  Except this time it's to control a new power that might destroy her and those around her.  In this book she learns about her heritage and the consequences that can happen if she doesn't control her power.  Breaden stays in Ayavel to plan the upcoming war, since he's the only one that knows the Steel and it's surrounding area.  The book goes back and forth telling what is happening to Kara and Breaden even though they are separated.  I think the saying is true here, separation does make the heart grow fonder.

This book is full of even more romance, treachery, sorrow, epic battles and redemptions.  Kara and some of the young bloods really grew up in this book.  They realized the hard decisions that come with power, that if they let their emotions control them they will destroy them and those around them.  There were so many twists and turns I was completely shocked at some of the new discoveries of the book.  I can't wait to read book 4 and the one thing I want to know more then anything is, if Carden is overthrown will the battle really be over?

Book #1 Lichgates
Book #2 Treason

Identity was partly heritage, partly upbringing, but mostly the choices you make in life.
