Sloppy Joes
We ended up going to the museum after all. Jaiden was a little behind in his Music and German class so I thought he might not be able to participate in the Scrabble competition at the Philadelphia Art Museum. But he ended up catching up in everything yesterday. While we waited for his turn to compete, we checked out the Medieval and Asian Art Exhibits I will add the pictures later.
We were out late tonight, though I've been cooking a few more simple recipes lately while I have been taking my classes. Specially after all of Jaiden's end of the year competitions, field trips or just side trips we've taken. One in particular has been Sloppy Joes. There's just something really comforting about them. My recipe is a little different than the classic, but I like the extra kick.
I took this picture when Jaiden's word gnat was challenged during the competition. Apparently the scrabble dictionary hasn't been bothered by them and doesn't know they exist. Even though it's a "fictional creature" and he couldn't use the word he still ended up winning the competition for the middle school level. I think this is a great way to end the school year.

Sloppy Joes
1 tbsp Olive Oil
1 lb Ground Sirloin
1 Onion, chopped
1 Clove Garlic, minced
8 oz. Tomato Sauce
1/2 cup BBQ Sauce
1/2 tbsp Worchestershire Sauce
1/2 tbsp Hot Sauce
Pink Salt & Ground Black Pepper to taste
4 Hamburger Buns
1 cup Grated Sharp Cheddar
In a medium skillet over medium heat add the olive oil and the ground sirloin and cook till browned.
Add onions and cook for 4 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for another minute.
Add the tomato sauce, bbq sauce, worcestershire sauce, hot sauce and salt and pepper and let it simmer for about 5 minutes. Spoon onto a hamburger bun and top with 1/4 cup of sharp cheddar.
Some foods are so comforting, so nourishing of body and soul, that to eat them is to be home again after a long journey. To eat such a meal is to remember that, though the world is full of knives and storms, the body is built for kindness. The angels that know no hunger, have never been satisfied.
